Just wanted to point out that we had 3 different spellings of Charlotte Johanssen. I THINK that's the right one, I looked it up last night. Two s's, one n, and E, not O. It's a stupid name, IMO.

Also, I think it's John Kishi, which makes no sense to me if he's a first generation immigrant. But the letter in SS#2 was addressed to John Kishi. I think it was SS#2. I usually ignore anything handwritten by Claudia because I can't read it. Same goes with Jessi, unless I'm in a patient mood.

We need more contributers.

I read Dawn and the Disappearing Dogs last night. There was no sitting, but plenty of Krasher action.

Thanks for making this category, although I can no longer remember (at the moment) what the things were that I was thinking "We should start a Little Things category for." Oh well. I probably will remember them later when I'm actually doing wiki stuff and I didn't just wake up.

I always thought that it was Johansson because at some point I memorized the spelling as "like Johan's son", but I guess I was wrong. Weird.

And "John Kishi" just SOUNDED right to me, but in the same sentence I also mentioned John Ramsey, Jessi's dad, and I was like, how many BSC dads are named John? I should probably bring my Complete Guide in from the car so that at least I can look stuff up in it when I'm at home; I left it there on the theory that I might someday be able to sneak it into work to consult it in my cubicle, which is where I do almost all my stuff for the wiki, but that probably won't happen.

I agree that we could use more contributors. I never got around to making that page about "How to start contributing", because I sort of felt like it was self-explanatory now that we have a fair number of articles and the site has some structure, but maybe I only think that because I know now how to do all the basic stuff. But I feel like people could come in now and figure out what to do. I did just edit the "How to edit pages" page that's linked on the left toolbar, so it's a bit more customized to newcomers to this site. But I think we should re-advertise at least on the LJ community to say that we've made some progress in developing the site, and we could really use more contributors to help in adding content. (And hopefully the masses won't descend and start editing everything all willy-nilly and then we'll have to go fix it. I admit there are upsides to it just being the three of us, at least in my paranoid, organization-obsessed head.)

By the way, re: the jumpsuits: I have seen that F&G episode, but I assumed that the jumpsuits the BSC is always wearing weren't so incredibly dorky. I don't know.

Re: Little Things

I have a school picture where i'm wearing a jumpsuit. My mom showed it to me yesterday, when we were looking for a picture frame. It's hideous, and I asked her why she made me wear it. Apparently, I wanted to. There is also a picture of me wearing black leggings, an oversized sweater with a dog on it, high tops, push down socks and my hair is in a side ponytail. I may be wearing clip on earrings. I was in 3rd grade. At that point in life, I wanted to go to the University of Kentucky and become a Dallas cheerleader. High aspirations there. I'm so glad that life isn't like the Sims where you are stuck with whatever aspiration you choose when you are a child.

Oh yeah, so the jumpsuit. It wasn't like sams on f&g. It was pink and floral printed. No collar. It buttoned up. I don't know what shoes I wore with it, my feet were covered.

The reason I mentioned the Johanssen thing is because I spelled it two or three different ways, and I also spelled it with an O until I happened to notice it was E. I think it my spelling problem comes from 2 things: one, I learned to read by memorization of entire words, then phonics, then back to memorization. It was sort of screwy, and all the changes were about when I was reading these books. I still don't always notice little changes in the middle of words. Two, it was a long time before I even realized it was Johanssen and not Johnson. I think it was when I was watching the show, which I rarely watched as it was on at ungodly times in the morning.

Google Images Search seems to indicate that the best reference for the kind of jumpsuit the baby-sitters might wear is April O'Neil from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Also, I just leafed through my Complete Guide and it turns out that Claudia's, Dawn's, Jessi's, and Mallory's dads are all named John (although Dawn's dad goes by Jack). Weird. I think now I might remember that coming up on LJ, actually. At least Lyman Bruno spices things up.

Ugh. Would it have been that difficult to think of some new names? Open a baby name book, I know she has a few. 10 Kids No Pets taught me that lesson.

Jumpsuits are ugly. I hate them, they just don't look good. They look uncomfortable and awkward.

Here's a Little Thing: In listing the "People/Places/Sitting charges in this book", should we list everyone who's even mentioned, or everyone who physically appears in the book's story, or what? I guess my internal guideline so far has been some kind of neblous idea along the lines of "If someone really liked this character, would the reference to the character in this book offer anything of interest?" So if, for example, there's a chapter about Claudia sitting for Jamie Newton, Jamie would get listed. If there's just a sentence during a meeting that says, "We got a call about baby-sitting for Jamie Newton, and Dawn took the job", and Jamie's never mentioned again, I don't list him. If someone tells a story about Jamie during a meeting, I list him, because the story adds to what we know about him. I'm probably even more lenient about listing other characters, like BSC classmates, because they don't get mentioned as often even in passing. But BSC family members, I'm not listing unless they get at least a spoken line or something like that; there's obviously no point in listing every family member mentioned in the Chapter 2 marathon of BSC descriptions.

I listed Bellair's in the article for Mystery at the Mall, but I probably shouldn't have, because it's only mentioned as the place where Stacey's mom works, I think.

On the other hand, if someone wanted to come in and list literally every name that appears (except maybe family members), I'd probably be fine with that. More info is generally better than less, IMO.

Re: Little Things
cpennylanecpennylane 1192542832|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

I've been wondering about that too. One of my biggest problems is Sam Thomas. Now, I'm a Stacey/Sam shipper, and have been since about 1990. (Short of my BSC break for things like high school and college). So I of course want to know all the places where Sam is mentioned in regards to Stacey. ESPECIALLY in the books that came out immediately after Super Special #8, Shadow Lake Edition. Some of them mention Sam in regards to Stacey, some don't.

So … I don't know.

I've been listing clients that they set up jobs for, and noting that they don't actually appear. But then, do they go under clients or under other people?

Re: Little Things
PigeonratPigeonrat 1192551688|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

I think clients should go under clients, not "other characters", no matter how big their appearance is. And I think it's fair to include Sam if he's only mentioned as the person Stacey's dating, since it's not automatic like, you know, mentioning Mrs. McGill as the person Stacey lives with.

Oh, and since you asked about outfits in one of your edit notes, I've been listing any outfit that gets described, at least when worn by one of the BSC members. (And for Kristy's Big Day, I just listed Stacey's description at the BSC meeting, even though it didn't really include an OUTFIT, just hair and accessories, because Kristy said that Stacey looked like a junior Madonna and that's hilarious.)

Here's a Little Thing I meant to post about: wikilinking the names of the BSC members in book articles. I haven't been doing it, because it sort of seems silly, since obviously if you're reading this you know who the members are. Also, it seems weird to write out the full name in the text (like, "Kristy Thomas and Mary Anne Spier go to the mall"), so if I were going to wikilink the names, I'd be more inclined to mask the links so it would show as "Kristy" and Mary Anne go to the mall," which seems sort of like a lot of work. And the member articles are easy to access on the index. On the other hand, it'd be a little weird not to have any links to the BSC member articles. And it's not like it's that much work to write out the link. I don't know. What do you guys think?

The only other thing I can remember about Watson is that he is balding. He also helps Kristy out with the Krushers, and is described as well organized. I think the rest of my image of Watson is my own imagination. You know, the wealthy, corporate type, who cares about his family and kids? Maybe a midlife crisis?

Oh, he has that car. And that heart attack. I'll look him up in my complete guide!

re: Boston: My inclination is to list every single place because I have a sick fascination with the idea of listing EVERY place ever touched by the BSC. I also like the idea of listing the places they go on vacation so that if people are going to be in that city, they can look and see where the BSC went (and maybe find out that suchandsuch place that the BSC went doesn't actually exist so they shouldn't try to go there). But that's just me. And obviously, of course, you can add whatever content you want to add; just because I like the idea of listing every place doesn't mean there's any pressure on you to go through and do it if you don't feel like it.

I was thinking maybe they could go under the person they were associated with, like the parent for "Kristy's Krushers" would be Kristy. Besides KK and BB, are there any other groups that would go in a separate category? (We could do, like, the members of All The Children Of The World, but since that only comes up in one book it seems superfluous. I can't think of any other groups that last for more than one book.)

Speaking of stuff that comes up in more than one book, though, I just realized we need an article about the Secret Agents game :) (at some point.)

Should we do some kind of cataloguing thing with fictional pop culture stuff that's mentioned in the series, too? I haven't been doing it, except that I listed "Cam Geary" under "People in this book" in #10, I think. Certainly, recurring stuff like Cam Geary and U4Me should be mentioned. But what about, like, the title of some TV show that gets mentioned once? Maybe there should be just one category for "Fictional Pop Culture" that encompasses articles about things or people that were significant to at least one book? (Like, I have no idea what the name was of the musician or group that made the tapes that Logan helps steal in that one book, but that might rate a brief article.)

I've just been winging it, but my instinct is basically to include the book number when it's a specific event, and to include the title when the event is relevant in some way to the rest of the book. But if it's a general fact about the character (or whatever), like "Sam is on the math team at SHS", I don't bother with the CG-style citations, because I asked Greer what she thought about that when she first started the wiki and IIRC (and I'm sure she will clarify her opinion if necessary) she said she didn't really care. I guess for me, mentioning the book is more about showing how something or someone is portrayed throughout the series, as opposed to Wikipedia's emphasis on things needing to be sourced to be reliable.
